Armchair

Rocking
Chair
To
Exclusive
Mount
Vernon
Garden
Collection

Terra
Furniture
presents
new
additions
to
its
exclusive
Mount
Vernon
Garden
Collection
-
the
Windsor
Armchair
and
Rocking
Chair
-
created
in
cast
aluminum
for
outdoor
use.
These
additions
are
inspired
by
the
Windsor
comb-back
armchairs
used
on
the
piazza
on
the
east
front
of
George
Washington's
mansion.
More
than
two
dozen
Windsor
chairs
sat
on
the
piazza,
where
social
life
centered
from
early
spring
until
late
autumn.
Following
George
and
Martha
Washington's
deaths,
the
chairs
were
auctioned
off
or
given
away,
and
replaced
in
1890-91
by
a
Ladies'
Association
board
member.
These
century-old
chairs
are
still
used
by
visitors
to
Mount
Vernon
today.
The
Windsor
Armchair
and
Rocking
Chair
are
produced
under
an
exclusive
licensing
agreement
with
the
Mount
Vernon
Ladies
Association,
caretakers
of
Mount
Vernon,
the
home
of
George
and
Martha
Washington.
Terra's
Mount
Vernon
Windsor
Armchair
recalls
the
popular
18th
century
comb-back
design
-
so-called
because
the
seat
back
is
formed
by
nine
slender
spindles,
resembling
a
woman's
hair
comb.
The
armchair
is
25"
wide,
20"
deep,
42"
high,
with
a
seat
height
of
19".
The
Windsor
Armchair
and
Rocking
Chair
join
previous
offerings
of
the
Mount
Vernon
line
that
were
inspired
by
furniture
and
architectural
features
seen
at
the
Washington
estate.
All
are
constructed
in
cast
and
extruded
aluminum
available
in
all
of
Terra's
20
custom
finishes.
As
with
other
Mount
Vernon
offerings,
the
Windsor
Armchair
is
available
with
cushions
featuring
the
custom
fabric
from
Sunbury
called
"Martha's
Garden,"
inspired
by
a
wallpaper
pattern
used
in
travel
trunks
at
Mount
Vernon.
The
complete
line
of
Sunbrella
fabrics
is
also
available

cushions.
